Forgotten wonderkid dubbed 'the next Lionel Messi' signs for League One side

A forgotten wonderkid once labelled 'the new Lionel Messi' has resurfaced by signing for a side in League One.

The forward made headlines across the world when he made his debut for Celtic's U20s at just 13-years-old and would later make his first team bow at 16.

However, after a handful of appearances and a spate of injuries, he never fulfilled his potential at Parkhead and was allowed to leave for Brest in 2022.

After two seasons in France, Karamoko Dembele - who won an SPL title and the Scottish Cup at Celtic - has moved back to the UK to kickstart his career with Blackpool in League One.

Dembele was born in London, but the Scottish club snatched up the forward when he was 10-years-old, with many at the club believing he would become a future star for the Glasgow giants.

Demeble, now still only 20, had both England and Scotland scrapping to have him declare for them when he made his breakthrough but he is yet to confirm his allegiance to either country.

While Chelsea and Manchester City were both previously interested in snapping up the player as a teen.

The forward has signed on a season-long loan for the Tangerings and upon signing for the club told the official site;

'I'm super excited to be here and to meet the players, staff and supporters.

'I've had some good moments in my career so far at both Celtic and Brest, and those experiences have helped me develop as a person and a player, and hopefully that will help me during my time here.

'I like to bring excitement and entertainment to the pitch, and hopefully I can add some goals and assists to the team this season.'
