Former Arsenal head of recruitment Mislintat accuses club of breaking promises

Sven Mislintat reveals broken promises at Arsenal led to his exit from the Emirates last season.

The highly-rated transfer guru was brought in from Borussia Dortmund as the club redeveloped their staff behind the scenes.

He oversaw a number of high-profile transfers, including the arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lucas Torreira, but Mislintat has set the record straight on what saw him leave the club.

The 46-year-old, who was known as 'Diamond Eye' at Dortmund given his ability to find star players before other clubs, explained how an offer to become Arsenal's new technical director was withdrawn before he accepted.

'Last summer there were leadership changes at Arsenal,' Mislintat said in an interview with 11Freunde via Arseblog.

'It had actually been agreed that I would become technical director, so then I would be around the team on a daily basis. But the new leadership had their own agenda and other candidates.'

Mislintat is now back in the Bundesliga having taken the role of sporting director at Stuttgart.

He was a driving force in Arsenal's recruitment before departing in February but he now believes the approach is totally different in the transfer market.

'We had different approaches,' he added. 'Previously we had a strong systematic approach to transfers, a mixture of watching things live as well as quality data and video analysis – Arsenal actually owns their own data company. That meant that we acted independently, we knew about all markets and players in all positions that came into question.

'However, the new leadership work more strongly with what they are offered from clubs or agents through their own networks.
