Former Benfica coach Jorge Jesus has revealed he turned down the chance to take charge of Newcastle and Chelsea this summer.

The 65-year-old was available after stepping down as coach of Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal after falling out with the club's board.

In an interview with the Brazilian channel Fox TV, the Portuguese coach explained that he could have been the successor of Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

'If it were for the money, I could have stayed at Al-Hilal. My agent wouldn't want me to come to Brazil. I could also have gone to clubs in England,' said Jesus.

He also revealed he had been contacted by Newcastle following the departure of Rafael Benítez.

Jesus agreed to be coach of Brazilian club Flamengo on June 1.

Chelsea eventually recruited Frank Lampard, while Newcastle appointed Steve Bruce as manager on July 17.
