Chelsea transfer news: The Blues are just one of the teams keen on signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window

Former Chelsea midfielder Geremi has claimed that Napoli star Victor Osimhen is almost certain to play in the Premier League. The Nigerian forward has been on top form this season and is set to lead his side to Serie A victory, as well the potential of a Champions League semi-final.

"It would be very good news for the Premier League because you want to see the world’s best players play in the league, and he is certainly one of them. I think the fans would love his style too.”

Although he would have a giant price tag there is a demand to sign the best strikers in the world, with Chelsea looking to fill the void at the club. At 24, Osimhen has been on the radar for several seasons after breaking through at Lille but is now consistently competing with the big boys.

“I think Victor would be very happy to come and play in the Premier League," Geremi added. "There is no doubt that he would be a great addition to the league and any team that wants to sign him. I am certain that a big club will take him. He has reached the top level after what he has achieved for Napoli this season, so we know he will be expensive, but he is worth it.

"He needs to find the right club and project, but every single big club in England would love to take him. I think he will make the move.”

His contract at Napoli is not due to expire until 2025, which gives the Italian side a bargaining position to work with too. As well as that, Napoli's success this season and Osimhen's form under Luciano Spalletti make it a tough deal to complete for any club.

Club's could be getting a future Ballon d'Or winner though, with the ex-Blues midfielder also claiming that Osimhen has the talent to win the individual award. He said: “Listen, for us, as Africans, we would be very proud and happy if Victor Osimhen could win it.

"There has only ever been one African player to be recognised with the Ballon d’Or. When you look at the number of players we have produced, the big players, for Africa it is a bit disappointing that we only have George [Weah]. African people know that the Ballon d’Or is not an easy title to win, but why can’t he (Osimhen) win it one day? I wish that he can win it. Africa will be so proud if he can win it.”

It is a good sign for the Blues that they are still considered to be in with a chance of getting these players but with a 33-man squad, room will have to be made for Osimhen should SW6 be his next destination.
