Jack Wilshere is hoping to continue his positive start for Bournemouth when the Cherries take on Reading in the Championship on Friday.

The former England midfielder signed a short-term deal earlier this month following his release by West Ham in October.

Wilshere, who had a loan spell with Bournemouth in 2016-17, marked his second debut in Tuesday's FA Cup victory over Crawley with a goal and is now looking to make his mark in the league.

He told the Bournemouth Daily Echo: 'I'm happy to have got my first game, my first start, my first hours of football in a long time and now I just want to progress from here.

'I want to use this as a benchmark. I scored a goal, I want to score some more and I want to play in a successful team that is winning games and pushing for promotion.

'When I first came down here three or four weeks ago, I felt really comfortable and there was a smile on my face again. I knew pretty quick that it was something I wanted to do and I wanted to be here.

'I'm glad that the club wanted me and gave me an opportunity and now I want to repay them with some good performances and try and get this club in the Premier League.'

Reading and Bournemouth both sit in the play-off positions and are separated by just one place and two points.

Reading are unbeaten in their last five league matches, winning three, while Bournemouth have failed to win any of their last three games in the Championship.

Royals defender Tom McIntyre said on readingfc.co.uk: 'We know they've done really well this season. They've got a lot of good quality and they've just dropped down from the Premier League, so we know they're going to have good players, they play good football, and they play out from the back.

'But we have more than enough, and we can combat that - we've had some good results of late and we'll go into it full of confidence as always.

'The manager has said to us, they're in a bit of a bad patch at the minute and we've got to take full advantage of that and capitalise on it.'

The Royals are also looking to settle a score having led their opponents 2-0 at half-time in the reverse fixture in November only to lose 4-2.
