Dejan Lovren has added more silverware 2020 season, winning the Russian Super Cup final on his debut for Zenit St Petersburg.

The defender left Liverpool after six years on Merseyside this summer, jetting off to Russia with a Premier League winner's medal around his neck.

The £10m signing was thrown straight into the deep end on Friday, starting at the back as Zenit secured glory with a 2-1 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow.

Lovren shared his delight on social media by posting a picture with the trophy, attaching the caption 'First game, first title. Well done boys.'

Former Reds team-mates Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino commented their congratulations on Instagram, with the Brazilian forward writing 'brate', which is Russian for 'brother'.

Lovren's trophy cabinet is rapidly expanding, boasting the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, French Cup with Lyon and two Croatian titles with Dinamo Zagreb.

The 31-year-old made 185 appearances for Liverpool after joining from Southampton in 2014, but is likely best remembered by Premier League fans for claiming he was 'one of the best centre-backs in the world' back in 2018.

Lovren was ridiculed for the statement but left England with the last laugh after securing the title under Jurgen Klopp, having had his starting spot wrestled away by Virgil van Dijk.

Zenit were as dominant as Liverpool in their 2019-20 league campaign, finishing top of the Russian Premier League with a 15-point gap to second-placed Moscow while the Reds finished 18-points clear of Manchester City.
