Rafael van der Vaart will begin his new challenging career in darts next month in Denmark.
The former Real Madrid and Tottenham man will enter the Denmark Open in Esbjerg, where he now lives, after hanging up his football boots in the Danish top flight.
And he will be in good company at the British Darts Organisation event next month, where he will compete alongside his brother Fernando on May 4-5.
Van der Vaart won't be thrown straight into the deep end as the event largely consists of little-known Scandinavian players.
In January, the 36-year-old played alongside Michael van Gerwen at the Promi-Darts World Championship in Germany.
The Dutch pair reached the final of the celebrity pro-am event, where they were defeated to Max Hopp and actor Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht.
The Dutch star retired from football in November last year, which ended a career that saw him win two Eredivisie titles with Ajax.
After starting off his career at Ajax, Van der Vaart donned the colours of Hamburg, Real Madrid, Tottenham, Real Betis, FC Midtjylland and Esbjerg fB.
