Four Serie A talents Man United should consider in summer transfer window (MEN)

Manchester United have traded regularly with Italian clubs over the past couple of windows with a whole host of players moving to Serie A.

Since last summer alone, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young have all departed Old Trafford to ply their trade in Italy, either on permanent or temporary deals.

Perhaps that trend will reverse when the transfer window reopens as there are a host of Serie A players who could make a difference to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad next season.

Here are some of the prime candidates who could have caught the eye of United's visiting scouts in recent months.

Luis Alberto

Club: SS Lazio

Nationality: Spanish

Ciro Immobile has stolen the headlines in the capital with an outstanding haul of 27 goals already this season, but it is Alberto who leads the assists charts with 12. In fact, Alberto has assisted Immobile on four occasions, as well as providing for Joaquín Correa on another four occasions.

Throughout the rest of Serie A, no assist to scorer combination has produced more than three goals this season.

Alberto's forgettable stint at Liverpool probably wouldn't count against him too much if he were to make the move to United.

Marash Kumbulla

Club: Hellas Verona

Nationality: Albanian

Hellas Verona have been Serie A's surprise package this term, after finishing fifth in Serie B in 2018-19. They currently sit in eighth place in Serie A after a poor run of form, which is telling of how well they have performed. Only the current top three of Juventus, Lazio and Inter Milan have conceded fewer goals and that is in part down to 20-year-old centre-back Marash Kumbulla.

The Albanian is a fierce competitor, putting his body on the line in duels both on the ground and in the air. His resolve is fantastic, often having to withstand heavy pressure in a regimented and rigid back-three, showcasing his discipline and razor-sharp concentration.

Tipped for a move to one of Italy's bigger clubs in the summer, Kumbulla is an enforcer developing week-by-week. The perfect long-term partner for Harry Maguire?

Gaetano Castrovilli

Club: ACF Fiorentina

Nationality: Italian

Despite being 23 years-old, central midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli is enjoying just his first Serie A campaign after spells at Bari and Cremonese in Serie B. The newly-capped Italian international is best described as a box-to-box midfielder, covering plenty of ground with and without the ball.

It is Castrovilli's ball-carrying ability that is one of his best attributes. He regularly completes multiple dribbles per game, and with a reasonably high success rate in doing so. This has made him one of Fiorentina's most progressive players this season, being able to individually switch the focus of an attack by carrying possession into under-occupied areas of the pitch.

All the while, he is performing highly in the final third too, registering a handful of decisive goals and assists.

Fred has stepped up immensely since the turn of the year, but Castrovilli would add further depth to United's box-to-box midfield options.

Riccardo Orsolini

Club: Bologna

Nationality: Italian

Orsolini has improved on his impressive campaign for Bologna last term with decisive and often match-winning contributions this year.

Typically starting on the right-hand side, he is an extremely hard-working and rugged wide forward. Orsolini's primary goal is to reach the penalty area as quickly as possible, which is where he turns provider or goalscorer.

He has registered 0.25 xA per 90 and 0.3 non-penalty xG in Serie A this season which puts him firmly in the conversation as one of the league's most creative and prolific wide-men.

His contributions over the past two seasons mean he will certainly be in regular contention for Roberto Mancini's Italy squad.

Daniel James has enjoyed a productive debut campaign at Old Trafford but the Welshman has played more football than perhaps Solskjaer would have wanted. Signing Orsolini would allow for greater rotation in that position.
