Brentford have promoted Thomas Frank from assistant to manager following the departure of Dean Smith to Aston Villa.
Frank has been at the club for almost two years and will take the helm for the first time against Bristol City this Saturday.
The club will now appoint a replacement assistant coach to assist Frank with first team responsibilities.
The Bees are only a point outside the play-offs and have lost just two of 12 Sky Bet Championship games this season.
Brentford are the first club outside Denmark that Frank has worked at after the 45-year-old spent five years working with Denmark's U16, U17 and U19 sides, before becoming Brondby boss in 2013.
Co-director of football Phil Giles told the club website: 'Ras and I have used Dean’s departure as a chance to pause and review what we need to add to the coaching staff to keep moving forward.
'We feel the Club is in a good place and we don’t think it is time for big changes.
'Promoting Thomas to Head Coach ensures that we can keep building on the foundations that are already in place and working.'
Smith's fine work at Griffin Park led Villa to recruit the 47-year-old Englishman with John Terry as his assistant.
Frank will look to continue the momentum from Smith's reign and sporting director Rasmus Ankersen added: 'Thomas knows the Club’s strategy inside out and he is both respected and supported by players and staff at the training ground.
'He has played a major role in the development of our style of play over the past couple of years and we believe he is ready for the job as head coach.'
