Manchester United new boy Fred avoided a red card for a rash tackle on Leicester's Demarai Gray during their 2-1 victory on Friday night.

Paul Pogba opened the scoring for United in the first five minutes of the match, before Luke Shaw doubled their lead late on. Jamie Vardy scored a consolation goal for the Foxes in stoppage time.

Fred, who joined the Red Devils this summer for £52million, made a decent introduction to the Premier League on his debut but he also showed his fiery side.

In the first half he managed to avoid a red card for a rash high tackle on Leicester winger Gray.

Fred fell to the ground after losing possession and kicked Gray in the back of his legs as Ben Chilwell ran away with the ball.

A free-kick was awarded for the foul by referee Andre Marriner but no card was shown.

Fred could receive punishment retrospectively if Marriner did not see Fred's kick.

Sky Sports co-commentator Jamie Carragher defended the Brazilian, he said: 'I'm not sure he's actually seen him, I think he had his eye on the ball, he was going for the ball actually and Demarai Gray just appeared.'

The foul created a discussion on social media with one Twitter user saying: 'How is that not a red?'

Another user wrote: 'Fred just decides to kick Gray because he has destroyed him.'

Manager Jose Mourinho also had to calm Fred down from the touchline at one point during the second half after Fred clashed with James Maddison and earned a booking.
