From Dubai to Miami since injury - Pogba's world tour

Paul Pogba has been out of action for Manchester United with an ankle injury since August 31 and has racked up the air miles in the mean time.

United fans hoping for a comeback from their record signing are still waiting and have seen the Frenchman post social media updates from Dubai, Paris and Miami.

Pogba was permitted to attend his brother's wedding last Friday back in France and it had been hoped that he might feature in the Carabao Cup against Colchester on Wednesday this week.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that the £89million man is ill and has suffered yet another set in his bid for fitness.

'Of all things he's been struck down ill now,' the manager lamented.

'He's been off for two or three days – three days probably – so that's not beneficial. That's probably set him back quite a bit.'

Patience may be wearing thin at Old Trafford, particularly when set in the context of Pogba's jet setting while injured.

His first post the week after suffering his ankle injury away at Southampton offered some encouragement.

Pogba was filmed on an exercise bike on the roof of a building overlooking Dubai. He accompanied the clip with the caption: 'They say hard work pay off what about hard work in the heat? Let’s see, loving the view though.. Allah always in control.'

A month ago the World Cup winner had his cast removed and was able to move freely on the injured ankle. So much so that three weeks ago he shared footage of him playing basketball in Florida.

In the footage he is with Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler and then celebrates by bouncing from one foot to the other.

He was also pictured out in the city with Butler and Pharrell Williams during the trip across the Atlantic.

United fans who watched the video might have thought a return to full training and the first team was imminent but not so. A scan revealed that the injury had not yet healed and require more rest and rehabilitation.

When questioned why Pogba was playing basketball in light of his setback, Solskjaer retorted: 'Didn't I say in the last press conference, we don't play basketball.

'I don't see many basketball players tackling, ankles twisting and turning with studs, so he's not ready to train, no.'

Despite the manager's reasoning, there is perhaps a danger that the 26-year-old repeats the mistake Bastian Schweinsteiger made when he was injured at United.

The German regularly flew back to Germany and the Manchester Evening News reported that his behaviour 'p***** off team-mates'.

Clearly there was nothing untoward about Pogba attending his brother's wedding last Friday in Paris but footage of him cutting loose on the dance floor might again have led some to question the desire to return to the pitch as soon as possible.

Pogba has been limited to just six appearances all season and United are in need of a creative edge to their midfield play as the team have frequently struggled against opposition willing to sit deep.

But Solskjaer is not willing to rush him back and insists the Frenchman is working hard to return before the start of January.
