Amidst a summer of change and optimism for the future at Real Madrid, another new opportunity has presented itself with the position of the third-choice goalkeeper.

With Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin established as the first- and second-choice goalkeepers respectively, two youngsters from Castilla look set to battle it out for the vacant position behind the pair: Toni Fuidias and Luis Lopez.

Whilst both have trained regularly with the first team since the 2019/20 season and played a key role in the UEFA Youth League triumph that season, Carlo Ancelotti looks set to make a decision on which of the goalkeepers will be his third-choice option.

The decision

Ancelotti will make his decision in the coming days over two goalkeepers who shared goalkeeping duties for Castilla last season.

Whilst Fuidias played 16 matches last season in comparison to the seven of Luis Lopez, the latter could see the result swing his way given his past achievements related to the first team.

Specifically, Lopez has been selected as the third-choice goalkeeper for two LaLiga Santander matches: for El Clasico against Barcelona at the Camp Nou and in the final match of the 2019/20 season against Leganes.
