Gazidis to join Milan just months after restructuring Arsenal

Ivan Gazidis is leaving Arsenal to join Italian giants AC Milan.

The Arsenal chief executive has been offered a £1million rise on his £2.6m salary to take up the same role in Italy.

Gazidis joined Arsenal in November 2006 and has impressed the hierarchy of the Rossoneri.

The Milan club were taken over by American hedge fund Elliott management in July.

There has been a significant infusion of cash as the former Champions League winners look to make ground on perennial winners Juventus.

As part of any move, Gazidis would be entitled to a share of equity in the club – and that could be worth millions.

The new owners at Milan have noted the business acumen Gazidis has shown in the way he has revamped the club and made it a more attractive financial proposition with his skills and organisation.

Gazidis has also shown a ruthless streak – as was illustrated in the summer when he axed several long-serving members of staff.

He also played a major part in bringing new manager Unai Emery to Arsenal based on the success he enjoyed at Sevilla and Paris St Germain.

And although many fans view him as just a lieutenant from majority shareholder Stan Kroenke he has made a point of attending every annual meeting of the shareholders and taking incisive questions.

Now Milan are looking for a similar transformation and streamlining at the San Siro.

'It is 99.9 per cent certain Ivan will leave,' said an informed club source on Monday night. 'It looks like a done deal and it appears the club are preparing a statement.'
