According to Sport1, the German Football Association (DFB) has reformed its anti-doping regulations, with NADA taking over results management from 2027.
The DFB's special general assembly decided on Friday that the association would transfer results management following doping tests and the handling of relevant violation cases would no longer fall under DFB jurisdiction.
The DFB stated that NADA was previously responsible for conducting doping tests, while the DFB managed the results of these cases. Under the new World Anti-Doping Code, which takes effect in 2027, this division of responsibilities will no longer be permitted. From that point, the legal consequences of violations will be decided by an arbitration court rather than the DFB's sports tribunal.
The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) announced at its annual press conference in June that it would assume the DFB's results management responsibilities from January 1, 2027. NADA CEO Lars Mortsiefer stated at the time that the DFB had made a commitment, though the relevant contract had not yet been signed.
This change will not affect the ongoing case of German women's national team player Laura Freigang, whose proceedings will continue to be handled by the DFB.
The DFB's handling of the Mario Vušković case also drew criticism. Vušković, who plays for Hamburger SV, was initially banned for two years by the DFB after testing positive for doping. NADA and the World Anti-Doping Agency subsequently appealed, requesting a four-year ban. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the appeal, and Vušković received a four-year ban lasting until November 2026. As of Tuesday, the Croatian player has been cleared to resume team training.
