Littbarski slams Nagelsmann, furious at Germany's early FIFA World Cup exit.

According to Bild, 1990 FIFA World Cup winner Pierre Littbarski is deeply disappointed by Germany's early exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup and, in an interview with the newspaper, pointed the finger directly at Germany coach Nagelsmann.

Littbarski said: "I feel very bad, our national team played so miserably. For example, I have seen the development and progress of the Japanese team over the years, and they rushed past us as if wearing seven-league boots. In contrast, our comet is constantly falling."

He pointed out: "There are many things to criticize about Nagelsmann. First, he rarely goes to watch Bundesliga matches in person, and he didn't go to the Africa Cup either." The former international, who played 73 times for Germany, then questioned: "Why on earth did Nagelsmann become the coach of the German team?" He speculated: "Because there was no other option." Littbarski also said: "As early as the 2024 European Championship, our tactic was: cross our fingers and pray, hoping for Wirtz and Musiala to perform."

In 1982, 1986, and 1990, Littbarski was selected for Germany's FIFA World Cup squads. He is very dissatisfied with Nagelsmann's continued tenure: "If Nagelsmann had any backbone, he would have resigned after losing to Paraguay in the round of sixteen. That would at least be a small positive in this disaster."

In Littbarski's opinion, Nagelsmann is not suitable for the job of national team coach. He said: "Who says he is a great coach? In my opinion, great coaches are Heynckes, Hrubesch, Rehhagel, Lattek, Daum, or Hitzfeld – they all left their mark. Nagelsmann left no mark, only sadness. I no longer have the motivation to watch the national team's matches, which I used to enjoy watching."

Regarding the future, Littbarski also has a clear view on a successor: "Klopp would only coach because there are no other options. I think his role as a MagentaTV commentator doesn't do him any good, because he publicly put pressure on the German national coach. Why don't we try a foreign coach? Guardiola – he would bring a breath of fresh air."
