Glasner changing high-flying Palace's mentality, says Guehi after Burnley win

Marc Guehi lauded Oliver Glasner for altering Crystal Palace's mentality after their win over Burnley lifted them into fifth in the Premier League table.

Daniel Munoz's header just moments before half-time proved the difference in a 1-0 victory for Glasner's side at Turf Moor on Wednesday.

With 23 points from their opening 14 Premier League games this season (W6 D5 L3), Palace's highest-ever tally at this stage of a campaign in the competition, they are just one point behind Chelsea in fourth.

And Palace captain Guehi, who assisted Munoz's deft header past Martin Dubravka, says Palace's record-breaking start to the 2025-26 season is all down to their Austrian boss.

"I think a lot in the past it has been a mentality of it's OK to be wherever we are," the England international told BBC's Match of the Day.

"But since Oliver Glasner has come in, there is a real expectation that we put on ourselves to keep improving and keep fighting for points while doing the best that we can."

Glasner has also juggled Europa Conference League football this campaign, with slight hangovers showing after following a 2-1 defeat against Strasbourg with a loss by the same scoreline to Manchester United on Sunday.

But the improvements all around the pitch are clear to see for Palace, who have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five league games.

Palace's 14 shutouts across 2025 are the most of any Premier League team, alongside Arsenal and Manchester City, who seem set for another title battle once more.

"We fought for each other and that's why it is an important win," Glasner said of a hard-fought showing against Burnley. "It would help sometimes [to score another goal] because everyone knows in the Premier League that any team can score a goal.

"The commitment to the team was to a high standard. I am really proud of the team and how they stuck together today."

Burnley, in contrast, have lost their last five Premier League matches, their longest losing streak in the league since a run of six between October and November 2023.

It could have been a different story, however, if not for a fine Dean Henderson stop as the Palace goalkeeper expertly tipped Jacob Bruun Larsen’s thunderous attempt onto the crossbar in the second half.

The defeat leaves the Clarets four points adrift of 17th-placed Leeds United, who surged out of the relegation zone with an eye-catching 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Elland Road.

But Scott Parker believes his side deserved more at Turf Moor, as he reiterated that Burnley face a tough task to avoid an immediate drop back to the Championship.

"I think it's fair to say we should have got something from that game," the Burnley boss told Sky Sports.

"We were on the wrong side of the fine margins. Overall, in terms of what this young team showed, the courage and the bravery was pleasing for me.

"We're in for a huge battle, we need to be consistent in our behaviours. This is how it is and I have a group that will relish and embrace this challenge. I see a brave group of men who are taking on this challenge."
