Granada 2-1 Getafe: Bordales' team suffer nightmare start to La Liga resumption

Getafe's Champions League hopes have taken a hit after Granada produced a second half comeback to claim a 2-1 victory on Friday evening.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes when Marc Cucurella was able to work the ball back to David Timor on the edge of the box after Granada failed to clear the lines and the midfielder curled a magnificent effort into the top right-hand corner.

But Carlos Fernandez turned the game on its head in the second half with two goals in ten minutes.

The forward's first came from a mix up between the Getafe defence and goalkeeper and David Soria following a set-piece. Centre-back Djene missed his header as the ball came into the box and Soria could only push the ball away before it was bundled in through a combination of the defender and Fernandez.

There was no doubting Granada's second goal belonged to Fernandez. Miguel Diaz got away down the right and cut the ball back to the forward inside the penalty area. His initial shot was weak but Soria could only push the ball straight back out, giving him a second opportunity to hammer the ball home.

The result sees Granada move up to eight on 41 points while Getafe's Champions League hopes have taken a dent. Atletico Madrid could leapfrog them into fifth with a victory on Saturday while Real Sociedad could go three points clear if they beat Osasuna on Sunday.
