Grismby Town's Carabao Cup clash against Macclesfield was called off just before half-time due to a torrential storm.
A replay of the second-round tie, which was 0-0 at the time of the match being suspended, will have to be rescheduled.
Jak McCourt's free-kick smacked the post for the visitors which was the best chance of the match before referee Darren Drysdale led the players off 30 seconds before the interval.
The storm which lasted around 10 minutes proved too much for the surface and Drysdale had to call it off.
Grimsby have told fans to retain their ticket stubs and say an announcement on Wednesday will be given regarding reissued tickets.
Town boss Michael Jolley said: 'I think in the end it was the right decision.
'We were hopeful that the rain might stop and it might improve, but every time the referee came out to the pitch it got worse didn't it. No complaints.
'The draw is made tonight so it will need to be done in time for the third round, but we have got a game next week anyway. It remains to be seen when it will be.'
Macclesfield boss Daryl McMahon added: 'No complaints at all. It was raining really heavily and there was a lot of surface water on the pitch.
'It would have been dangerous for the players had we returned. And looking at the weather, we would have only got 15 or 20 minutes in anyway.
'It was very unreal. I've never seen anything like it and I'm from Dublin.
'I was pleased with our performance, though, having made seven changes. I was enjoying the game, but no complaints.'
