Southampton ramped up their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Guangzhou R&F.

The Saints begin their Premier League campaign away at Burnley on August 10 and Ralph Hasenhuttl will have been very satisfied with his side's emphatic performance in Macau on Tuesday.

Shane Long scored the pick of the bunch for Southampton during their resounding win against the Chinese Super League outfit.

Southampton went ahead through a Che Adams strike inside 56 seconds but it was a moment to forget for Gangzhou's goalkeeper, who fumbled the striker's effort into the back of his own net.

Then the moment of the match came from Long following another goalkeeping howler as the Ireland forward pounced on a loose pass before curling home into the top corner of the net first time.

Saints were romping to victory and they made it 3-0 before the break through an incisive finish from right-back Yan Valery, who got in behind the opposition defence before slotting home.

Hasenhuttl opted for a strong starting line-up, picking the likes of Valery, Adams, Long, Josh Sims, Maya Yoshida and Fraser Forster.

They were complimented by youngsters including Callum Slattery, Jake Vokins, Thomas O’Connor, Klarer and Will Smallbone.

And it more than paid off, with the St Mary's outfit putting the icing on the cake in injury time thanks to a header from Christoph Klarer after Slattery had a goal disallowed for offside.
