Guardiola: Picking team for UCL final will be one of the hardest City decisions

Pep Guardiola has admitted picking the Manchester City side for the Champions League final against Chelsea will be one of the toughest calls he will make in his five years at the club.

City play possibly the biggest game in their history against the Blues in Porto on May 29, and Guardiola - who has rested and rotated heavily throughout this season - admitted he had not fully decided the line-up or tactical setup.

The Spaniard also told the Manchester City website he had two options for how the team would play against Thomas Tuchel's side, who beat them in the league on May 8 and in the FA Cup semi-final on April 17.

He said: 'I have an idea. I know how we play, but I have two options, we will see. I am not clear so these three games will tell me about their momentum and the chances they have to play.

'They (the players) want it. They will kill me to play, I know it. It's nice and everyone can do it. It will be an incredibly tough decision for me, but I have to analyse the opponent and we will try.

'It's tough in a normal game to tell players they aren't playing, so, can you imagine Champions League final? But the players we have a good relationship and it's a business, I'm sorry.'

Guardiola stated he would judge the best starting line-up based on the next two Premier League games and training sessions, picking those who can handle pressure the best.

He added: 'The players follow the manager because you win. If you don't win they leave you alone except a few exceptions. That depends on personality. That's why today I observe the next few games and again in training.

'I have to see the way I want to play and defend, the mentality, the guys who handle the pressure and in that moment try to be honest with myself and the team and do the best selection possible knowing we have five substitutions available in the final.

'Everyone has to be ready because in a final many things can change or happen.'

Up next City travel to Brighton on Tuesday before hosting Everton in the final league game of the season on Sunday May 23.
