Manchester City stars have hailed the “best guy ever” as a key member of staff leaves the club after 15 years.
Popular kitman Brandon Ashton has announced that he is departing the Etihad Stadium this season. He confirmed the news in an emotional statement on Instagram.
He wrote: “After 15 years at Manchester City I have decided to leave my role at the club to explore other career paths. I have had some great experiences, met some amazing people who I know will be friends for life.
“For me and my family I feel it is the right time to start a new chapter, and see what new challenges I can be set. I will always hold Manchester City close to my heart as this club has brought me from a boy to a man.
“The memories I have over my time at City will forever be cherished. I want to thank all the players, management and back room staff I have worked with and also the fans I have had the pleasure to converse with over the years. I wish the lads nothing but the best this season and in the future.”
Ashton had become a hugely popular member of staff at Man City. He had forged strong relationships with a host of players and previously went viral for his half-naked dressing room celebrations with the club.
A host of stars sent him messages of support after his bombshell announcement. Current Manchester City stars Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, Stefan Ortega, Manuel Akanji, Rico Lewis all replied with touching messages.
England star Jack Grealish also sent his well wishes. Writing on Instagram, he said:”Best guy ever!! You will be missed brother.”
Meanwhile, an array of former stars including Aymeric Laporte, Cole Palmer, Tosin Adarabioyo and Matija Nastasic also had kind words. Ashton’s announcement comes amid a tricky time for City off of the pitch.
The hearing for 115 charges of alleged breaches of the Premier League's financial rules kicked off this week. The hearing is expected to last around 10 weeks and a decision is not expected to be known until at least 2025.
City could potentially face expulsion from the top flight of English football should they be found guilty. While that is the case, things are still going to plan for the club on the pitch.
Pep Guardiola’s side sit top of the table after a perfect start to the season. City kick off their latest Champions League campaign against Italian giants Inter Milan on Wednesday evening.
