Leeds United defender Gudmundsson sustained an injury during the team's 4-2 pre-season comeback victory over Liverpool and is currently awaiting further examination results. He discussed his injury in an interview with Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet.
In the friendly match held in Chicago, head coach Farke started the Swedish international. However, Gudmundsson was forced off in the 34th minute due to injury.
Although Leeds United ultimately completed the comeback and secured a 4-2 victory, the team remains concerned about the 27-year-old left-back's physical condition.
Gudmundsson commented on the team's performance against Liverpool: "We have a lot to build on."
Regarding his injury, he said: "It's disappointing. I just felt something at the time, so we still need to see the results. Yes, it felt like an issue in the back of my thigh."
However, Gudmundsson emphasized that this injury was not in the same leg that had troubled him before. "It's not the same leg, and I don't want to go into too much detail. I don't have the answers yet; we'll see."
Gudmundsson joined Leeds United from Lille in July 2025, making 35 appearances for the team last season. In May of last year, he suffered a hamstring injury, missing the end of the season, but subsequently recovered in time to represent Sweden in the World Cup, making 4 appearances.
Currently, Leeds United has returned to the UK, and Gudmundsson will undergo examinations to determine the severity of the injury. "We'll see what the examination results show," he stated.
If Gudmundsson's injury is serious, it would be a significant blow to Leeds United. Farke currently has only Byram as a recognized left-back, which may force the club to seek new reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
