Alan Shearer described Matteo Guendouzi as 'magnificent' and 'a warrior' for his performance against Aston Villa.

With Ainsley Maitland-Niles sent off in the first half, the Gunners found themselves 2-1 down and up against it in the second period.

But Guendouzi and Co fought back to win the game 3-2 with Calum Chambers and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring late on as the hosts showed steel many have previously accused them of lacking.

Alan Shearer was among those to heap praise on the 20-year-old, who performed like a more senior player.

On Match of the Day, he said: 'When you consider they went down to 10 men, the change in attitude was incredible.

'Guendouzi was magnificent in the second half, they needed a warrior and he stood up.

'We’ve questioned Arsenal’s character enough time and we’ve got to give them praise. What a performance in the second half.'

Guendouzi picked up the man of the match reward for his performance as he inspired the team from the middle of the pitch.

Nobody had more touches or passes than the Frenchman, who looks integral to Unai Emery's side despite his tender age.

Next up for the Gunners is the third-round League Cup clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
