Haaland & Ben White square off in HEATED finish as Man City thrash Arsenal

A tense encounter between Arsenal and Manchester City boiled over following the final whistle, with Erling Haaland and Ben White seen exchanging words after the game in a heated contest.

Man City ran out 4-1 winners against Premier League leaders Arsenal in a dominant victory, that saw several flash points at the Etihad as the title race seemingly swerved strongly in the hosts' direction.

Kevin de Bruyne starred for the Citizens with goals either side of the break, while John Stones doubled the lead in the first half and Haaland broke Mohamed Salah's 38-game season goal scoring record in added time after a Rob Holding consolation.

But the game was not without moments of controversy, with Ruben Dias kicking out at White only to receive a yellow, and notable contests between Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka and Jack Grealish highlighting the tension on the night.

However it was after the final whistle that both sides were seen squaring off, with the Norwegian record-breaker marching towards the Arsenal defender before the situation was diffused by referee Michael Oliver.

Haaland had marched over to the Arsenal right back following the conclusion of the action, with the two seemingly set to lock horns.

White had approached Phil Foden and the pair squared off briefly before Bernardo Silva intervened, although Haaland then appeared on the scene.

But a sizeable group of team-mates from both sides were then seen separating the pair and preventing proceedings from turning ugly.

Oliver then looked to temper the heated exchanges, before both sets of players gradually disentangled and made for their dressing rooms on a dramatic night.

While the game itself fell some way short of the competitive action that fans had expected - with Arsenal well off the pace - there was still plenty of tension between the two title rivals.

Grealish and Partey were frequently at odds, with the battle seeing the Ghanaian midfielder react poorly to be nudged over by the ex-Aston Villa skipper.

Both players were booked for a confrontation that resulted in a grapple between the two as they grabbed each other's shirts in anger.

Grealish was also involved in an argument with Xhaka, with the Swiss midfielder holding onto City's No 10 as he walked away from the penalty area with the game paused for a free-kick following an infringement on Ederson.

The England star was seen attempted to wrest himself free of Xhaka's grasp around his shoulder, with Oliver once again called to the scene to help both players calm down.

Xhaka was then substituted soon after for Jorginho, alongside Martin Odegaard who failed to inspire Arsenal to a performance to challenge the reigning champions.

Gunners fans were also left aggrieved by VAR decisions in the game, and believed that Dias should have been sent off at the end of the first half for a kick out at White, who was at the centre of many of the evening's events.

City ended the night just two points behind the leaders, with two games in hand as they now look favourites to take a third title in a row.
