Hamann: Ulreich can't be a starter; Bayern need a top goalkeeper like Donnarumma

In the 19th round of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich suffered a surprising 1-2 home defeat against Augsburg. Former player Dietmar Hamann criticized the performance of starting goalkeeper Sven Ulreich on the Sky90 program.

Hamann said: “You need a solid and reliable goalkeeper. Maybe Ulreich can do that in the future, but I doubt he can handle the responsibility next season. Sitting on the bench won't make you a better goalkeeper; experience can only be gained through playing matches.”

Hamann also criticized Bayern for missing out on Donnarumma: “Under normal circumstances, I don't think Ulreich will be able to establish himself as the starting goalkeeper next year; for me, it's almost impossible.

I would have used every means to sign Donnarumma. Bayern pays Upamecano €20 million a year, spends heavily on Musiala, and completes contract extensions with astronomical sums. The money to sign Donnarumma should have been available; it's the most important position. You can only win the Champions League when you have a top player in goal. With Donnarumma, you wouldn't have to worry about this position for the next five or six years.”

Donnarumma moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester City last summer for approximately €30 million, and he is one of the world's top goalkeepers. At Bayern Munich, the future of the goalkeeper position remains completely unclear, as it is still uncertain how much longer Manuel Neuer will remain with the team.
