Harry Kane's £100million summer transfer to Bayern Munich was triggered after he told Tottenham "it was time to move on".

Kane, 30, completed his switch to Bavaria in August following a record-breaking career in England. The Three Lions captain, who was linked with Manchester United before his transfer, left Spurs as their record scorer after finding the net 280 times in 435 games.

He's made an immediate impact in Germany, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists in just 12 Bundesliga games. The striker is also enjoying himself in the Champions League, finding the net four times to fire Thomas Tuchel's side to the last 16 of the tournament.

Kane will be desperate to win the first major trophy of his career this season. Bayern have made an unbeaten start to their league campaign but are second, two points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. They have also been knocked out of the German Cup.

Now the dust has settled, Kane has opened up on his move to Bayern in an interview with FourFourTwo. The Tottenham icon said: "It was a bit of a mad experience to be honest. I didn’t really know what to expect... I was stepping out of my comfort zone."

Kane only asked to leave Tottenham once last season finished. Spurs endured a difficult campaign, with manager Antonio Conte and his successor Cristian Stellini both getting the boot. They finished eighth in the Premier League to miss out on a European spot.

Kane explained: "Last season, all I focused on was Spurs and trying to help the club finish as high as possible in the table. Once the season finished, I spoke to Spurs and explained that I felt it was time to move on and push myself as far as possible."

It took a long time for the transfer to get over the line, as it was announced on the eve of Tottenham's Premier League campaign. Although it went right down to the wire, Kane was always "confident the clubs would come to an arrangement".

The forward made his debut for Bayern in their German Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig just hours after his transfer was finalised. He was introduced in the 63rd minute of the match when Bayern were already two goals down. Leipzig went on to win 3-0.

Kane recalled: "I woke up on the Saturday morning, went straight to training, met all the players for the first time, then we had the game that night. I was at the airport just the previous afternoon. Like I said, it was mad. It felt amazing to make my debut."
