Hasenhuttl will be first Austrian PL manager... but where are the rest from?

The Premier League has had an incredible mix of players and managers from around the globe since it began in 1992, establishing itself as one of the most cosmopolitan divisions in world football.

Part of the appeal of the English top flight is the manner in which the best — both on and off the pitch — worldwide are drawn to testing themselves in the league.

And Saturday afternoon will see a new nation arrive on Premier League touchlines for the first time as Southampton visit Cardiff.

Ralph Hasenhuttl, whose appointment as Southampton manager was confirmed on Wednesday, will become the first Austrian to take charge of a team in the division.

He will need to make a rapid start to life in charge of the Saints, given this weekend's clash could be important in the race to stay in the Premier League.

There are a number of fascinating nations to have been represented in the dugouts of the Premier League in the 16 years since its establishment.

It will not come as a huge surprise to find out that England has produced the most Premier League managers since 1992, with 118. And, incredibly, it is Harry Redknapp who tops the charts for the most games managed, with 641.

Scotland, once the home of managerial greats, is next on the list. There have been 34 Scottish managers in the history of the Premier League. Sir Alex Ferguson has taken charge of the most games, with 810.

The nation behind those two is something of a surprise, though. Italy is well known for the quality of its coaches and 12 people from that country have managed in the Premier League. Claudio Ranieri's 212 is the most games of any Italian manager.

Rafa Benitez, who has managed 317 games, is the most prolific Spanish manager — they have had nine in total in the Premier League.

Wales round out the top five, surprisingly, with eight managers. Mark Hughes, recently dismissed by the Saints, leads the way for them with 466 games.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger of France has overseen the most games in Premier League history. He took charge of 828 before leaving Arsenal in the summer. Wenger is one of just seven French managers in the English top flight since 1992.

Like the situation with Austria and Hasenhuttl, there are eight other nations that have only had one manager represent them in the Premier League.

Manuel Pellegrini has taken charge of 129 games across two clubs, West Ham and Manchester City, but remains Chile's only manager in Premier League history.

Avram Grant holds the same distinction for Israel after his spells at the helm of Chelsea and West Ham.

Denmark's sole representative is Michael Laudrup, while Gustavo Poyet holds that honour for Uruguay.

Few fans these days will remember him, but former Tottenham boss Christian Gross is the only Swiss manager. Luiz Felipe Scolari's brief spell at Chelsea gives him the honour of being Brazil's only Premier League boss.

Slavisa Jokanovic also became the only Serbian Premier League manager this season, although he lasted only 12 games before being sacked by Fulham in favour of Ranieri.

Darren Moore's spell in charge of West Brom in the top flight last season makes him the only Jamaican manager in Premier League history.
