Arsenal transfer news: Chelsea forward Kai Havertz is set to join the Gunners this summer and will have a free pass to choose his preferred shirt number
Kai Havertz is edging closer to becoming Arsenal's first signing of the summer transfer window. The Gunners are said to be close to an agreement to sign Havertz from London rivals Chelsea.
With the Gunners seeking to form a squad capable of competing in both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, the move will be viewed as a smart piece of business
Upon completion of his move to north London, Havertz will have no problems in securing his preferred shirt number for next season. Over his two spells at Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea, the forward has worn the No.29, a number that is currently unoccupied.
The digit has not been worn at Arsenal since Matteo Guendouzi. It previously was held by Granit Xhaka in his opening two seasons at the club, as well as Kim Kallstrom, Marouane Chamakh and Sebastian Larsson.
Should Havertz's transfer to Arsenal be completed, he will be free to wear his preferred number ahead of the start of the 2023/24 season on Saturday August 12.
