'He wanted it, got it' - Klopp reveals TAA took home match ball after 3 assists

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Trent Alexander-Arnold was the proud owner of the match ball after his 'special' record-breaking display against Watford in midweek.

The Liverpool boss was full of praise for the young full back, who became the youngest player in Premier League history to pick up three assists in a single match after he set up Sadio Mane (twice) and Virgil van Dijk to score in the 5-0 win.

Both Alexander-Arnold and left back Andy Robertson have shone for the Reds this season and ahead of his side's trip to rivals Everton, Klopp hailed the role they are playing in Liverpool's title charge.

'That's modern football. If you ask a young boy what is your favourite position, I don't think a lot of them would say "I want to be a full back" but football has changed,' he said on Friday.

'I was a full back for a decent part of my career, I looked completely different to what the boys are doing. You have to be really strong defensively but also on the other side because a lot of teams clear the wing for the full backs offensively.

'If you are then able to be open-minded enough and have the football quality to see some people in the same shirt in the box, that helps a lot. In that game it was exceptional.

'I don't think I have ever been part of a game where somebody got a hat-trick in assists. So it was special. Did he get the match ball? He wanted it, got it... so it was really cool and let's try to do something like that again!'

Klopp also revealed that striker Roberto Firmino could make an unlikely return to action at Goodison Park.

The Brazilian missed the 5-0 win over Watford in midweek after coming off against Manchester United with an ankle injury.

But Klopp revealed: 'He was out there running yesterday (Thursday) but we have to see how he reacts... he is very positive but that's Bobby's nature as well.

'We have to see, I don't see any other player — okay maybe two or three more — that would even be in contention after the little problem he had. So it looks really good but if he will be ready for Sunday I don't know.'
