Rob Holding thanked his Arsenal team-mates for their show of support after he sustained a season-ending cruciate ligament injury against Manchester United.

Holding was forced off in the opening period against United after he damaged his cruciate in the 2-2 Premier League draw at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

And following the devastating injury, Arsenal players took to social media to pay tribute to their team-mate, who has flourished in recent months.

The likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Granit Xhaka, Hector Bellerin and Shkodran Mustafi all wished Holding the best of luck with his recovery from the injury.

And after their best wishes, Holding wrote on Instagram: 'This team is special! I love my guys. Thank you for all the support from players, staff and fans.'

It was later confirmed on Friday that Holding will miss up to nine months of action, therefore missing the rest of the season and putting an end to his England hopes for the time being.

The news comes at a time when Holding was emerging as a serious candidate to break into Gareth Southgate's England squad.

The Arsenal defender had moved firmly onto Southgate's radar in recent weeks following a string of excellent displays in Unai Emery side's 20 match unbeaten run.

Holding's injury could see Arsenal now enter the transfer market for a replacement, particularly given Emery has switched to a back-three in recent weeks.
