After the curtain closed on a disappointing campaign for Liverpool, questions were raised over what summer activity might ensue.
Reds fans were hopeful that they would bring in some fresh faces to help their struggles and it looks like their prayers have been answered.
Jurgen Klopp's side are closing in on the signing of Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, after the Argentine was pictured completing his medical.
And, with strong links to French midfield duo Khepren Thuram and Manu Kone, more activity can be expected.
So, here, Mail Sport has taken a look at the potential line-up that the Reds could field next season.
GOALKEEPER
Alisson
Was there any doubting the Brazilian place in this team? The 30-year-old picked up 14 Premier League clean sheets last year, in another impressive campaign.
He even managed to record one assist during the season, after picking out Mohamed Salah in their clash with City - who ended up scoring the winner.
There's been nothing to suggest that the Reds are searching for a new number one and with Caoimhin Kelleher unlikely to challenge, Alisson's place is safe.
DEFENDERS
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Although it was a season of ups and downs for the England international, there can be no denying his place within Liverpool's line-up next season.
The 24-year-old came under scrutiny for his defensive performances for Liverpool throughout the season but picked up his form towards the end of the year.
He capped off his campaign with a sensational free-kick strike that nestled into the top corner during their 3-0 trip to Leicester last month.
Virgil van Dijk
Similarly to Alexander-Arnold, the 2022-23 campaign will not be looked back on fondly by Virgil van Dijk.
Prior to the campaign's start, the Netherlands international had seemed unbeatable at the back and a key catalyst to his club's success.
However, a disappointing campaign saw the 31-year-old admit that he had fallen below expectations and deserved the criticism that was aimed his way.
Despite all of his struggles last year, there can be no displacing the former Southampton and Celtic central defender.
Ibrahima Konate
The Frenchman did well to earn a place in the Liverpool first-team last season after displacing the regular start in Joel Matip.
After picking up seven clean sheets from his 18 Premier League appearances, the 24-year-old has proved that he is a top talent in defence.
At such a young age, there is a likelihood that the defender will only get better from here on out and will be key for Jurgen Klopp.
Andrew Robertson
While Liverpool may have struggled in their domestic campaigns, Andrew Robertson can look back on his season with pride.
The Scottish international managed to provide eight assists for his side - two less than he mustered last term - from his 34 appearances in the top-flight.
Again, left-back is not a position that Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen and therefore will be unlikely to see Robertson lose his place.
MIDFIELDERS
Kheprem Thuram
This is where things get interesting. There have been murmurs of a midfield overhaul at Anfield and it could all start with France star Khephren Thuram.
According to L'Equipe, the club have begun negotiations with Ligue 1 side Nice over a potential deal for Thuram, with funds having been freed up by outgoings.
There are high expectations for the 22-year-old, who is brother to Borussia Mönchengladbach winger Marcus and son to legendary defender Lillian.
Manu Kone
While many would expect to see familiar faces like Jordan Henderson or Fabinho, it's likely that another new face will sit alongside Thuram.
The player most likely to fill that role is Mönchengladbach central midfielder Manu Kone, who has been in talks with the Reds over a potential move.
The 22-year-old joined Monchengladbach in January 2021 and has since gone on to make 60 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.
It's said that the German side want somewhere in the region of £35-40m for the French U21 international - which Liverpool would be able to afford.
Alexis Mac Allister
Liverpool's first recruit of the summer. While nothing has been confirmed yet, the 2022 World Cup winner will seal a move to Anfield after the club agreed a deal with Brighton.
The Argentinian star has long been on Liverpool's radar and the Reds have acted quickly to secure the signing, amid interest from a number of rivals.
With 10 goals and two assists in the Premier League for the Seagulls last season, there are high hopes for Mac Allister heading into his Liverpool career.
ATTACKERS
Mohamed Salah
Again, there was little debate for this one. Though he fell short of expectations last season, there can be no denying the talent of Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian winger has been Liverpool's most prolific goalscorer throughout the Jurgen Klopp era and added to that with 19 top-flight goals last season.
Though Salah is now 30-years-old, the Reds remain confident in his abilities in-front of goal and have not been seeking to replace him.
Cody Gakpo
Perhaps a dubious call, given Darwin Nunez's omission, however Netherlands international Cody Gakpo just pips him in our team.
After a slow start to life in England, the 24-year-old managed to find the back of the net on seven occasions from 21 appearances in the Premier League.
If the second half of his season is anything to go off, then you can expect a lot more goals from the former PSV forward in 2023-24.
Luis Diaz
The 2022-23 campaign was a difficult one for the majority of Liverpool's stars, but no one struggled more than Luis Diaz.
The 26-year-old hit the ground running at Anfield after signing in January 2021 and had looked to kick-on last season.
However, a string of injuries meant his game time was limited and ultimately stopped him from picking up any real momentum in the season.
There are hopes, that with an injury-free campaign and the rest of his team-mates firing, that the Colombian can have a big impact next season.
