It wasn't a particularly busy summer for Liverpool on the transfer front as their only major acquisition in the first team was Ibrahima Konate.
Due to the defensive injuries the club suffered last season, Jurgen Klopp recognised the need for reinforcements in the backline and so Konate was purchased from RB Leipzig after his €40 million release clause was triggered.
It was thought Liverpool would be actively trying to find a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who left Anfield for Paris Saint-Germain at the expiration of his contract.
WHAT IS THE TRANSFER VALUE OF EVERY LIVERPOOL PLAYER?
Instead, Harvey Elliott has actually featured in the midfield three this season before his injury and has looked very impressive, which highlights just how important a loan move can be in a young player's development.
Last season Elliott went out on loan to Blackburn and was fantastic, scoring seven goals and recording 11 assists in 31 starts at Ewood Park.
Liverpool will be hoping for similar success with some of the young players the have out on loan in the 2021/22 campaign.
How many players do Liverpool have out on loan?
From the reserve side to the senior side, Liverpool currently have 13 players out on loan.
Where is each Liverpool player on loan?
Ben Davies - Sheffield United
Rhys Williams - Swansea
Sheyi Ojo - Millwall
Ben Woodburn - Hearts
Sapp van den Berg - Preston
Youth:
Paul Glatzel - Tranmere
Luis Longstaff - Queen's Park
Viteslav Jaros - St Patrick's Athletic
Jake Cain - Newport
Leighton Clarkson - Blackburn
Jakub Ojrzynski - Caernafon Town
Anderson Arroyo - Mirandes
Adam Lewis - Livingston
When Liverpool were in the midst of their defensive crisis last season, they panic purchased Ben Davies from Preston for a nominal fee.
He has so far failed to make a single competitive appearance for the Reds and has now been shipped out on loan back to the Championship with Sheffield United, where he has made 10 starts in the new campaign.
Another victim of sorts of Konate's arrival has been Rhys Williams who has been loaned to Swansea. The young defender struggled to make the grade after being thrust into the first team spotlight, but a loan move to the Swans may be just what he needs. He has been limited to just three appearances so far.
It doesn't look like Sheyi Ojo or Ben Woodburn have a future at Liverpool as they have been sent out on loan again, this time to Millwall and Hearts respectively. They have 19 appearances between them so far this campaign.
Highly-rated defender Sepp van den Berg has made a positive start with Preston and has even found the back of the net in his 17 appearances.
From the reserve side, Liverpool will be hoping Leighton Clarkson can replicate Elliott's success at Blackburn.
