Humble Ronaldo insists for Matuidi to receive Juventus captains armband

Cristiano Ronaldo refused to take the captain's armband from Leonardo Bonucci - instead giving it to Blaise Matuidi as a mark of respect.

It happened as Juventus took a comfortable 3-1 victory at the Allianz Stadium to go level on points with league leaders Inter Milan in Serie A.

Bonucci was replaced by Matthijs De Ligt in the 76th minute and offered to give his armband to the 34-year-old Portuguese superstar.

However as a way to show his respect to Matuidi - who has been part of the team longer - Ronaldo decided to turn down the chance to skipper the team and offered the armband to the Frenchman instead.

Ronaldo joined in the summer of 2018, while Matuidi signed for Juventus one year prior.

The five-time Ballon D'Or winner was in scintillating form as the Bianconeri cruised to victory.

He became the only player in the top five European leagues to hit double figures for 15 consecutive seasons thanks to a first-half brace.

Juventus took the lead when Paulo Dybala's deflected shot fell into the path of Ronaldo who fired in a low finish from the edge of the box.

He then got his second goal on 37 minutes after latching onto Gonzalo Higuain's through ball and smashed a shot into the bottom corner.

Bonucci added a third before half-time before Ignacio Pussetto was able to get a consolation goal for the away side in the second half.

The brace makes it 11 goals in 19 appearances for the Portuguese attacker this season, with four goals in his last three games.
