Brandon Williams has spoken out for the first time since he hugged Christian Eriksen during Norwich's 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

Norwich defender Williams was angry at a foul made by the Denmark international and looked like he was ready to confront his opponent.

However, after realising it was Eriksen who brought him down, Williams instead decided to hug his opponent.

Both players were seen laughing following the incident, in a game where Eriksen made his first competitive start he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark against Finland at Euro 2020 last June.

Williams when questioned about the moment which fans described as 'beautiful', he told Sky Sports: ''It was just a moment that happens, it was just instinct.

'I got passed him and I felt him pull me down, we were on the attack and I was really angry so I was going to hold him but I know what he's been through and it's incredible what he's done.

'He's back now and it was something special for him to be back on the pitch for himself and to be involved in that I felt like he needed a hug.

'It's something that no player wants to go through. It's amazing he's back, he's a top quality player and I'm sure he'll be back to his best.'

When asked if his team-mates had anything to say about the video, he replied: 'They were just asking me about it and did I mean it, but I just said it was instinct and it felt right.'

It was Eriksen's second appearance for Brentford after he made his debut as a substitute in a defeat to Newcastle.

Against Norwich, Eriksen completed the full 90 minutes as Brentford managed to secure a 3-1 victory.

Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick for Brentford, which included two penalties.

Although Teemu Pukki got a goal back for Norwich late on, it was Brentford who took all three points to end their eight game winless run in the Premier League.
