'I have not decided' – Silva still unsure on future at Fulham

Marco Silva has insisted he remains undecided whether he will stay in charge of Fulham next season as speculation continues to ramp up about his future at Craven Cottage.

Silva, who joined the Cottagers in July 2021, is out of contract in the summer, though it is reported that Fulham have offered him a three-year deal to stay at the club.

The 48-year-old has been linked with several vacancies, including a return to his homeland with Benfica, with Jose Mourinho reportedly closing in on a switch to Real Madrid.

Fulham face Newcastle United on the final day of the Premier League season following their 1-1 draw with bottom side Wolves last week, with their European hopes ended after Chelsea's win in midweek.

"I have not decided," Silva told Match of the Day when asked about his future. "I understand the fans want to know the future of the club. The club and I cannot communicate anything when the decision is not made."

Silva said that this summer was going to be "one of the most important for the club's future". Harry Wilson, who has 10 league goals this season, is also out of contract in June.

"We are going to have meetings, I am going to analyse," added Silva about his own future. "I believe there are many things to analyse, and you need to be calm at this moment to address many, many things."

Newcastle, like Fulham, also saw their European prospects ended after Chelsea beat Tottenham 2-1 thanks to goals from Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos in either half.

It was a result that moved Chelsea three points clear of the Magpies, and because the Blues play Sunderland, who are also above Newcastle and Fulham in the table, on the final day, there is no result that could see Eddie Howe's side leapfrog both teams.

But Newcastle were able to end their season at St. James' Park on a high, beating West Ham 3-1 as William Osula and Nick Woltemade were both on target.

Osula has now scored six goals in his last eight Premier League appearances, having scored just twice in his first 50 top-flight games before this for Sheffield United (no goals in 21 games) and Newcastle (two goals in 29 games) combined, and he wants to end the campaign on a high.

"We've got our heads down in training and worked hard to make sure we finish the season strong. Everybody wants to do the best for the club," Osula said.

"Everybody wants to play football, and I thank God that I'm playing now. It's the best feeling [to score at St James' Park], it's always nice to get on the scoresheet."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Fulham – Harry Wilson

Wilson has more goals (10) and more assists (six) than any other Fulham player in the Premier League this season, and he will look to end his campaign on a high.

Only Clint Dempsey in 2011-12 (23), Louis Saha in 2003-04 (18), Dimitar Berbatov in 2012-13 (18) and Luis Boa Morte in 2004-05 (17) have ever registered more goal involvements in a season for the Cottagers.

Newcastle – William Osula

Aged 22 years and 286 days, Osula became the youngest player to score a brace for Newcastle in a top-flight match since Kenedy against Southampton in March 2018 (22y 30d) last time out.

Only Bruno Guimaraes (nine) and Nick Woltemade (eight) have scored more Premier League goals for Newcastle this season than Osula (seven), with six of his seven goals coming in his last eight appearances.

MATCH PREDICTION: NEWCASTLE WIN

Despite being favoured by the Opta supercomputer, Newcastle have won just two of their eight Premier League away games so far in 2026 (D2 L4), though both of these wins have come against London sides (vs Spurs in February and Chelsea in March).

However, when playing their final league match of the season in London, the Magpies are unbeaten in their last seven games (W6 D1) since a 3-2 loss at Spurs in 1972-73. This run includes 4-0 and 2-0 victories at Fulham in 2018-19 and 2020-21, respectively.

But Howe's side did lose 1-0 at home to Everton on MD38 last season. They have not lost their final league game in consecutive seasons since a run of three between 2011-12 and 2013-14.

Fulham, meanwhile, have won their final league match in just one of the last eight seasons (D1 L6), winning 4-2 at Luton Town in the Premier League in 2023-24.

But they come up against a Newcastle team that they have lost six of their last eight Premier League games against, with both exceptions coming last season (W2).

No side has drawn fewer home games than Fulham in the Premier League this season (W10 D2 L6). Their 10 wins at Craven Cottage are their most in a top-flight campaign since 2011-12 (also 10), while they last had more in 2009-10 (11).
