According to the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service RÚV, Icelandic national team goalkeeper Hákon Rafn Valdimarsson recently spoke in an interview about his situation at Brentford. He stated that he is doing well at the club and hopes to get more playing opportunities, but also admitted that he does not want to spend his entire career as a reserve goalkeeper.

Valdimarsson represented Iceland in two UEFA Nations League matches during the international break and performed well in both. Before Iceland's home match against Bulgaria, he said that the team's goal was to earn promotion from UEFA Nations League League C.

"We need to prove that we don't belong in League C and complete our task in this group," Valdimarsson said.

Before the recent international fixtures, Valdimarsson had been dealing with a back injury. He admitted that he was worried he might have to withdraw from the national team because of it, but after sufficient rest, his condition improved enough to allow him to participate.

"I missed a cup game for Brentford because of it, but it seems that was the right decision," he said.

Valdimarsson is currently the only Icelandic national team player competing in the Premier League. He joined Brentford from Swedish club Elfsborg almost three years ago, but has yet to establish himself as a regular in the Premier League.

Speaking about his experience since joining Brentford, he said: "Coming here from the Swedish league was a huge step, and it took me some time to adjust. However, I feel very good about where things stand now."

Although Valdimarsson has had limited Premier League opportunities, he has accumulated significant playing time in cup competitions. Regarding his current situation, he stated that he has not yet felt anxious about it.

"I train every day with a very good team, but of course I want to play matches. My goal is to represent Brentford," Valdimarsson said.

However, he also made it clear that he would not accept an indefinite reserve role.

"But if I don't get many playing opportunities, I certainly don't plan to be a reserve goalkeeper at Brentford for my entire career," Valdimarsson said.
