Inter Miami can finally breathe a sigh of relief—one of the club’s top summer targets is one step away from joining the franchise. While the official announcement is still pending, all signs point to Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul making his move from Atlético Madrid to South Florida in the coming weeks.
Sources close to the deal indicate that the transfer is essentially finalized, with only a few formalities remaining before Inter Miami rolls out the red carpet for the World Cup winner. Once confirmed, this high-profile signing will mark a major milestone for the club, fulfilling a key objective outlined by leadership earlier this summer.
Sports journalist Gastón Edul confirmed Wednesday that De Paul is officially heading to Inter Miami. According to reports, the Fort Lauderdale-based club reached a deal with Atlético valued at €15 million (roughly $17.5 million). The agreement locks De Paul in for the next four seasons with the Herons.
The 31-year-old joined Atleti in a five-year, €35 million deal from Udinese in 2021. He has made 187 appearances under Diego Simeone, scoring 14 goals and creating another 26. He has one year to run on his current contract which expires next June.
Sources close to the club told AS that Inter Miami plans to introduce De Paul during the upcoming Leagues Cup, which kicks off in just a few weeks. His debut is expected to come on July 30 at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, when Inter Miami faces off against Mexican side Atlas.
Inter Miami looking to make further signings
With Rodrigo De Paul’s high-profile arrival all but sealed, Inter Miami is setting its sights on locking in at least one more reinforcement before calling its roster complete for the second half of the MLS season.
One name in the mix is veteran Argentine defender Marcos Rojo, a former Manchester United center-back currently playing for Boca Juniors. Rojo had emerged as a key target for the Herons, but negotiations appear to have cooled in recent days after the player received offers from other clubs in his homeland, with rumors he is close to returning to Estudiantes.
In spite of that, Inter Miami remain hopeful about reaching a deal, leveraging their existing relationship with the player’s representative.
Rojo shares the same agent as Tadeo Allende and Gonzalo Luján, two players Inter Miami successfully brought in during past transfer windows.
That shared connection has the club feeling confident that a deal with the former Manchester United and Boca Juniors standout is within reach, even as competing offers from Argentina have complicated negotiations.
