Sassuolo midfielder Jeremie Boga said he is Marseille’s “No1 fan” and that he doesn’t regret failing at Chelsea. “Maybe I’ll be back one day.”
The Ivorian came to Sassuolo from Chelsea in 2018, after spending one season at Birmingham in the Championship.
He admits it was “a shame” that he didn’t get to establish himself at the Stamford Bridge, but the 22-year-old said he doesn’t regret his spell in London.
“It’s true that it’s a shame. Apart from that, I have no regrets,” he told Foot Mercato. “Everything comes in its own time. It was certainly not the time for me to play for Chelsea.
“I always keep that in the back of my mind. If I continue to do what I am doing and work hard, maybe I will be back one day.”
At Sassuolo he has already played more league games than in any of his former clubs, having also played for Rennes in Ligue 1 and Granada in La Liga.
This season he has scored four times in 12 games, already bettering his record from last season, when he bagged three in 25.
But the midfielder admits Marseille is the love of his life and claims he is their “No1 fan.”
“Marseille remains the club in my heart, ever since I was a little kid. Each year, I follow their progress, their matches, everything they’re doing,” he added. “I will always be Marseille’s No1 fan.”
“At the start of the season, I was like the fans. I was a little worried, but I think the team has been put in place and things are going better. I think they will have a very good campaign.”
Boga now has to focus on a home game against Perugia in the fourth round of Coppa Italia this Wednesday.
