Gonzalo Higuain will never be allowed to forget his World Cup final miss against Germany in 2014, but the Argentine has defended himself for not finishing the chance.
The No.9 had the chance to beat Manuel Neuer, but he dragged his shot wide, adding to his unwanted reputation as a player whose performance drops in high-pressure games.
"It was an unexpected chance," he explained to Fox Sports.
"I was there, but unfortunately I couldn't take it.
"I did the first thing that came to my mind, but I don't know if I'd do the same thing today.
"It came to me 15 metres out and as soon as I turned I had the goal in front of me.
"It looked easier than it was."
