Ivan Toney BLASTS Brentford's 'embarrassing performance' after their 4-0 thrashing by Aston Villa

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has given a scathing assessment of his side's showing in their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of struggling Aston Villa.

The English frontman compared the Bees' 'embarrassing performance' to a 'bunch of kids' after they went 3-0 down inside 15 minutes at Villa Park on Sunday.

The home side had sacked manager Steven Gerrard earlier this week, and were led by Aaron Danks in the absence of a full-time boss.

'Shambles, to be honest. Shambles,' said Toney of his side's dismal display. 'They fully deserved the result and it could have been more. We were like a bunch of kids out there.

'I don't mind losing games but not like that. Embarrassing performance from the boys.

'We knew what they were about, we knew they had quality throughout the team. They put in a performance today and deserved to win.

'Fifteen minutes in, 3-0 down. That cannot happen in a Premier League game. We had it against Newcastle and we bounced back so hopefully we can do that again.'

'Like a bunch of kids.'

The visitors got off to the worst possible start, with Leon Bailey netting with only two minutes on the clock with a sweeping strike from a short corner routine.

Danny Ings then doubled the lead on seven minutes from a Bailey assist, before scoring from 12 yards to put the home side 3-0 up in the 14th minute.

Jamaican winger Bailey then got another assist in the 59th minute after Ollie Watkins finally converted his cross after firing against Bees goalkeeper David Raya at the back post, eventually making it four.

In the process, Danks became the first Villa manager in history to win their first game by four goals or more, with the hosts rampant on Sunday afternoon.

And his beaten counterpart Thomas Frank was quick to praise his efforts: 'First of all congratulations to Villa with a deserved win. They have been struggling so Aaron Danks and his coaching staff have done a good job.

'We knew they would come with energy. We should have done better with the set piece for the first goal but it was a well played set piece. It was game over after 14 minutes but we never gave up.

'We have come back from 2-0 down twice this season, we know we are capable of that. The big thing in football is no matter what happens stay disciplined. Stay focused and don't make mistakes but unfortunately we didn't do that today.'

But the Danish coach refused to declare his side's poor away form a concern, with just three draws on the road this season.

When asked whether he was worried by the poor run, he added: 'Yes and no. I think sometimes it is a little bit random the order of games and what happens in the games but black and white in the stats we have not got enough points in away games.

'We need to bounce back and come out strong from this situation.'
