Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed he has been a Liverpool fan ever since he was young, just as his father is.

The 70-year-old has admitted he has a secret love for the Reds, but couldn't allow it to be public knowledge during his stint as the England boss.

The Swede took charge of the national side between 2001 and 2006 and claims he still primarily watches the Premier League to this day.

'I've always been a Liverpool fan,' Eriksson said according to Sky Sports. 'I can say that now, I couldn't say that when I was in England but I was always since I was [young]. My father as well, he is 90, still a Liverpool fan.

'But I still think City will win (the Premier League this year).'

Eriksson is currently out of a job and most recently took charge of Shenzhen FC - in China's League One.

He admits he was offered the top job with the Iraq and Cameroon national teams but had to turn them down due to 'private reasons'.

'In this job you don't have plans and you don't go to the office and ask for a job,' added Eriksson, who lives in Sweden. 'You're offered a job or not.

'I said no thank you to the Iraq national team and no thank you to the Cameroon national team.'

Explaining why he rejected their approaches, Eriksson added: 'Different reasons but more like private reasons and they are two OK teams who I was rather keen, but at the end, no.

'If something comes up I will take it, I still want to work. In the meantime, I keep busy with the local team.'
