Jack Butland to undergo Man United medical TODAY ahead of surprise loan move

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland will undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of a loan move to Manchester United, according to reports.

United have acted quickly in recruiting a back-up goalie to David De Gea after Newcastle recalled Martin Dubravka from his season-long long at Old Trafford, leaving just Tom Heaton and Neil Bishop as their other options.

The Athletic are reporting that Butland will join Erik ten Hag's side until the end of the season in a six-month loan move.

The 29-year-old hasn't featured in the Premier League for the Eagles so far this season, and has only played 10 times in the league since moving to the London club in 2020.

He has missed most the current campaign with a fractured finger, and is behind Vicente Guaita as Palace's number one stopper.

However, the goalie - who still has a house in Manchester from his time with Stoke - is back fit and could sign in time to make his debut against Everton in the FA Cup on Friday or United's Carabao Cup clash against Charlton next week.

Butland was Stoke's first-choice keeper for two season's during their Premier League stay, and became the youngest goalie to play for England when he made his debut for England in 2012, aged 19 years 158 days.

He'd go on to win four caps for the Three Lions and be part of the squads for both Euro 2012 and the 2018 World Cup.

The Eagles stopper only has six months left on his current deal at Selhurst Park, but the club do have the option of extending his stay for a further year.

United are already said to be casting an eye on longer-term goalkeeping targets, with David De Gea out of contract at the end of the season.

They have been linked with both Porto's Diogo Costa and Borussia Monchengladbach's Yann Sommer as possible replacements.

Meanwhile, the club decided not to recall Dean Henderson, as they believe the best move for him was to continue his loan at Nottingham Forest.
