Jack Wilshere has expressed his love for Arsenal and admitted it would be 'the dream' to return to the club he left two years ago.
The 28-year-old is currently a free agent and looking for a new club after West Ham terminated his contract this summer.
And the central midfielder has not ruled out a move back to the Gunners although he does realise a return to the Emirates at this stage is unlikely.
'Listen, you never know,' he told the ITV Football Football Show, in conversation with presenter Mark Pougatch and Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend.
'Listen I'm an Arsenal man. Andros, there's nothing, I've not spoken to anyone or anything but that would be the dream.
'I'm not stupid to know that there's probably no chance of it happening but I'm an Arsenal man, I love the club and want to see the club do well.'
Wishere became Arsenal's youngest ever debutant at 16 and he was tipped for a big future after going on to make his England debut two years later.
However his career has been plagued by injuries and following his breakthrough into Arsene Wenger's first-team plans multiple ankle and knee issues kept him out of action.
He made 29 appearances on loan at Bournemouth in the 2016-17 season and returned to north London ready to reignite his Gunners career.
Wilshere featured in 38 games in Unai Emery's season in charge of the club but fell out of favour towards to end of the Spaniard's tenure and departed when he deal expired and made the move to West Ham.
But again his time at the Hammers was hindered by injuries and he made only 16 league appearances in two seasons at the London Stadium.
His only appearance this season came in the Carabao Cup victory over Hull City before he agreed to cancel his contract.
After leaving West Ham on transfer deadline day, Wilshere said: 'When I joined the club in the summer of 2018 I joined with great hopes and was excited to join the club I supported as a boy.
'Despite all of my best efforts and intentions, it has not worked out as I'd expected.
'I have been fully fit for a large period of time at the club, including over the course of the last eight months but unfortunately have not been given the opportunity to play.
'Although I am frustrated I was not able to fully showcase what I am capable of at West Ham, I remain convinced that I can still contribute at the very top of the game.
'I am still hungry and ambitious.'
Wilshere played alongside Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for five years between 2011 and 2015.
