Jack Wilshere reveals his children spurred him on to revive career

A desire for his youngest kids to see him play football helped drive Jack Wilshere on as he trained alone on a muddy field in an attempt to revive his career.

Wilshere admitted he found it tough and was in a lonely place when he was trying to keep himself fit in solo sessions after leaving West Ham in October.

Wilshere, 29, was without a club until he re-joined Bournemouth last week though the one-time England midfielder insists he never thought about abandoning his comeback bid.

'My kids seeing me play was one of the reasons why, which inspired me during the tough times in the park and on my own training,' said Wilshere, who scored against Crawley on Tuesday to help Bournemouth into the FA Cup fifth round.

'I've got two older kids who came down before and watched me play here but my other two kids are two and one. I don't think the one-year-old has seen me play a game of football.

'I wanted him to experience that as well and I'm delighted that it's here at Bournemouth. It's a great stadium when fans are allowed back and hopefully they are this season.

'It can be a lonely place when it's chucking it down with rain and you're in the middle of a field in Hatfield on a pitch that's basically all mud.

'But it can inspire you to come back and not show everyone what I can do and prove myself all over again but prove to myself and the people that believed in me throughout my whole career, my family, my wife, my kids.'
