Jacob Ramsey insisted that Aston Villa will remain home for some time yet after Paul Scholes suggested the Premier League’s elite should look at signing the midfielder this summer.
Scholes made the remarks after Ramsey scored during England Under 21s’ opening night victory in the European Championship.
The 22-year-old has credited Villa boss Unai Emery with elevating his game to a different level and wants to stay working under the Spaniard.
‘Scholes was a top midfielder, probably one of the best British midfielders to play the game,’ Ramsey said.
‘I’m really happy at Villa, I’m from the area and I’ve got four years left on my contract. I’m here to try to win a tournament for England so I’m not really thinking about my club situation.’
Gareth Southgate has jetted into Kutaisi to watch the Young Lions and is expected to attend Sunday’s game against Israel.
Ramsey added: ‘One of the good things about this national team is you can see there is a pathway from the 21s through to the seniors.
‘With Gareth coming over, we can be excited but we’re used to it at club level. There’s no added pressure, the lads can go out and enjoy themselves.’
