James Rodriguez 'is struggling with a testicle injury'

Everton star James Rodriguez has reportedly been suffering with a testicle injury since the Merseyside derby.

The Colombia international played the full 90 minutes against rivals Liverpool on October 17, which ended as a 2-2 draw, but he sustained bruising in a challenge with Virgil van Dijk.

Rodriguez has been recovering from a testicle injury by using a pressure-treatment therapy machine, according to Marca Colombia.

The report states that the playmaker has been using a device called NormaTec to help reduce bruising as ice is unable to be used.

The technology works by massaging the legs using air pressure to improve circulation and lessen bruising. Rodriguez uploaded an image of himself sitting on a sofa using the machine last weekend.

The injury had made him a doubt for the Toffees' clash at Southampton last week but he did end up playing the whole match.

'James is not definitely out,' Ancelotti said last Friday. 'He had a big haematoma and was not able to train until today.

'He is much better now and we have confidence that maybe he can play.

'Fortunately, I think his recovery was really good and he trained today - he had a partial training session.

'I hope he is going to train tomorrow and we will see if he is in condition to play on Sunday.'

Rodriguez failed to make an impact in the 2-0 defeat at St Mary's following the injury and it remains to be seen if he's fully recovered for the visit to Newcastle on Sunday.

The 29-year-old has made an instant impression at Goodison Park, scoring three goals and supplying four assists in seven matches, following his £20million switch from Real Madrid this summer.
