Jesse Lingard hits back in debate with Dele Alli over who started viral celebration

Jesse Lingard has refuted claims that Dele Alli was the person to start the new viral hand-sign celebration.

The Tottenham forward has been widely associated with the new craze after using it as a celebration after scoring against Newcastle last week.

The internet has been going mad trying to replicate the confusing and difficult sign with the likes of Paul Pogba, Mauricio Pochettino and now even Neymar is trying his hand at it - but Lingard insists that  the latest craze instead started with him.

The Manchester United attacker took to Instagram on Friday to show a screenshot that the craze was started back in June.

Lingard took a screenshot on a WhatsApp message he received from a friend asking the England squad to start performing the hand gesture.

Sent on June 26, while the duo were at the World Cup in Russia, the screenshot supports Lingard's argument that the craze was started by him, rather than Alli.

Lingard has since credited friend Louie Scott with creating the hand gesture in previous videos.

Following the screenshot, Lingard then shows his followers that even Neymar has been swept up by the new viral gesture.

The Paris Saint-Germain man then performed the 'JLingz Challenge' - another tricky gesture which involves unraveling your fingers and hands to produce Lingard's signature celebration.
