John Terry is set to make a dramatic return to top-level football alongside Dean Smith at relegation-threatened Leicester.

MailOnline first revealed on Monday that the former England captain was due to be part of Smith's staff at King Power Stadium, with Smith signing a deal until the end of the season to try to keep the Foxes in the Premier League.

Terry was part of Smith's staff at Villa from 2018-21, leaving Villa before the start of Smith's final campaign at the club.

In a recent interview, he said: 'I loved my time at Villa, Dean Smith was great for me' but that he had 'decided against' trying to become a manager in his own right.

This will be Smith's third job in the Premier League after he joined Norwich a short time after leaving Villa in November 2019.

But he could not keep the Canaries in the top flight and was sacked in December with the club fifth in the Championship.

They are now eighth under David Wagner.

Smith kept Villa in the Premier League against the odds in 2019-20, when they were seven points adrift of safety with four games to play but collected a further eight points to stay up on the final day of the season.
