England and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford appeared to be involved in a street brawl in Sunderland at the weekend.

Pickford, who spent 15 years on Sunderland's books before joining Everton in 2017, watched on television as his former club lost the EFL Trophy final to Portsmouth in a penalty shootout on Sunday.

Later in the day, he was caught up in violent scenes in Sunderland. In footage published by The Sun, Pickford appeared to swing an arm towards another man before being dragged away from the scene.

Two ladies initially try to pull 25-year-old Pickford away from trouble, before a couple of men help them get him out of the danger zone.

An Everton spokesman was quoted by The Sun as saying: 'The Club has been made aware of an alleged incident involving one of our players and we are looking into the matter.

Pickford kept a clean sheet against West Ham earlier in the weekend as Everton won 2-0 at the London Stadium.

The Toffees are at home to Arsenal next Sunday when Pickford will be hoping to continue his record of playing in every minutes of the club's Premier League campaign.
