Jorginho determined to make Chelsea move work after difficult beginning

Jorginho has expressed his determination to make his Chelsea move work after a difficult start to Premier League life last season.

The midfielder was brought to Stamford Bridge by his former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri for £57m in the summer of 2018.

The Italian international struggled to adapt to the Premier League in his first season but has found a new lease of life this season under new coach Frank Lampard.

The midfielder told Gazetto Dello Sport: 'Coming to a club like Chelsea and playing in the Champions League represents a lot and I had promised myself I wouldn’t lose this challenge. It wasn’t easy, but I can see the light now.

'I wasn't given the warmest of welcomes and it was a struggle at the start, because you need time to adapt when moving from one league to another.

'I give myself credit for not giving up, not letting myself get swept up in disappointment. This is why I can enjoy this experience even more now. I wanted to prove that I deserved to play in the Premier League with the Chelsea shirt.'

The 27-year-old midfielder was a regular under Sarri last season where he scored and assisted two times in 37 Premier League outings.

However the Italian was often criticised for his style of play and seen as the architect of the often condemned 'Sarri-ball' and was even booed when he came on for a Europa League game in February.

But the midfielder has come to life under Chelsea's new manager Lampard.

The Chelsea legends' more aggressive style of football has suited the Italian who has been let off the leash and allowed to play a more expansive style of football.

Jorginho is now a popular leader among a young squad of promising Chelsea players.

So far this season he has scored three goals in all competitions and the club are lying in the top four in the Premier League with a strong chance of getting out of the Champions League group stage.
